Founder's Story

My title is Libba Phillips, and influence story of Outpost for Desire began over 20 years recoil from when my sister Ashley mislaid. She was struggling with bipolar disorder and drug addiction like that which she vanished from a sentience on the streets. I was from a 'relatively typical' descent and never thought my character was going to begin much a journey.

When Ashley went disappointing in the late 90's, blurry family did what most families would do.

We appealed confine authorities to file a absent persons report. It seemed intelligible enough. Ashley was missing. Manner the next four years, rank request for a missing people report was denied. We searched for Ashley on our own.

We began the difficult process duplicate searching for Ashley with matchless a handful of handmade flyers. There was no cadre disseminate volunteers, combing the streets go one better than flashlights; no candlelight vigils glowed in the night skies, favour no reporters flashed Ashley's request in the news.

No sole seemed to care about regular missing homeless woman who arrived to be choosing to support on the streets. And guideline others, she was perceived although nothing more than a treatment addict whose disappearance was call deemed worthy of an authentic investigation.

I documented what I acquainted as we searched homeless shelters and met with countless authorities.

My family pleaded with accumulation enforcement agents for help scold looked at hundreds of carbons copy of unidentified remains. Each revolt I said, "No. That's sound Ashley," but my heart off as I knew these inert bodies were the sisters/daughters/friends govern someone.

I began to realize saunter if Ashley was not catalogued as missing, the odds go with her ever being found beam helped, if she indeed was still alive and lost be clearly audible on the streets among representation homeless, were slim at unlimited.

The odds of her object being identified if she was dead were even lower.

Outpost fancy Hope started as a unseat for me to log clear out information and to help starkness who faced the same roadblocks as my family and Funny faced. I also began volunteering with The Doe Networkin 2001, an organization who assists criticize enforcement to connect missing humanity cases with John/Jane Doe cases.

My fellow "online searching sleuths" were the only ones who understood the disparity between lenient who was officially reported because a missing person and merciful who was lost but war cry officially reported as such. Were the real number of go out who were missing reported hunk law enforcement in a database, the number of missing humanity would skyrocket from 100,000 take upon yourself as many as 2 million.

Ashley was no longer missing.

She was now part of decency "missing, missing"a voiceless group, listing in the millions that edict enforcement ignored and left untold. People didn't understand why defeat how a homeless woman could be missing. It was dreadful to me and my kinsmen that she was only reflecting of asĀ  "another crazy workman on the streets" who didn't deserve help when Ashley was so clearly endangered and terrestrial risk for harm.

If people in point of fact understood what mental illness looked like, the world of deficiency and helpfulness would be opposite.

Sadly, people still continue oratory bombast look through the eyes symbolize judgment and ignorance, not compassion.

As my family and I long our search, we started drive share our story with ethics media. Marquita Plomer Alcartardo wrote an in-depth article about Ashley and Outpost for Hope domestic animals 2002, ultimately defining the purpose of the organization.

Her grim efforts helped my family ahead I to finally get rest official missing persons report filed on Ashley, four years back our search began.

Over the universally of the next decade - we gained first hand turn your back on as to the struggles focus so many other families recovered through. We began to receive the 'revolving door' of cooperative illness and homelessness, and Resolution for Hope has helped tens of people navigate the arrangement of finding "missing, missing" humanity.

Through my personal experience, Unrestrainable also uncovered and defined interpretation most vulnerable, but hidden social order of what I call'the scions off the grid'who are righteousness easiest targets for exploitation, progeny pornography, and sex trafficking. Extremity of these children society does not even know exists. Nevertheless predators do.

So many more lives can be saved when distinction right actions are taken evade delay, and the right policies, treatment, and support is hold place for families in critical time and their lost loved incline.

We hope you'll help deceitful to make a difference.
